National Security Services agents have yet to take any statement from ousted Western Equatoria governor Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro despite arresting him more than two weeks ago, a family member said.
The relative said the family was allowed to visit Bangasi in prison at the NSS headquarters in Jebel yesterday where he is awaiting results of an investigation into his activities. NSS arrested Bakosoro on 22 December.
The relative said NSS appears to be delaying the investigation.
“He has taken 2 weeks and there is no investigation yet, they have not taken any statement from him,” the relative said.
The family member said Bakosoro is taking his medications but appears weak.
“He’s looking somehow weak, not because he’s sick but because he’s not freely moving. When someone is moving freely he feels relaxed,” the relative said.
Radio Tamazuj previously reported that NSS is accusing Bakosoro of encouraging youth in Western Equatoria to fight the government.
Bakosoro was removed by Salva Kiir from his elected position as governor of Western Equatoria state in August. He was arrested that time, too.
