President Salva Kiir has named Stephen Dhieu as the Minister of Finance, replacing David Deng. 

The decsion was announced on state owned TV on Monday. Dhieu was the Minister of Trade and Industry, and will head both positions until further notice.

"I welcome it and I congratulate comrade Stephen Dhieu Dau on his appointment as the new minister," Athorbei said in an interview with Radio Tamazuj.

Athorbei was not given a new assignment, a rare move.
