State workers in Kadugli discontent over pay

State employees in Kadugli in South Kordofan are asking for the payment of salaries allegedly withheld and transmitted to the Ministry of Finance in Khartoum.

An official from Kadugli said that the state government had formed a committee concerned with the salaries of government employees, and it withheld salaries from a large number of workers and employees for June and July. The government withheld payment from employees who were out-of-state at the time that salaries were issued. The official told Radio Tamazuj that the government had not taken into consideration travel conditions and the situation in other parts of South Kordofan State.

Complaints from the employees and laborers prompted the government to form another committee.

“But the problem was not solved and the situation did not change,” the employee said from Kadugli. According to the source the state employees' union is not playing a significant role.
