SSPDF vehicle overturns killing 2 soldiers in Rumbek

The police in the Lakes State capital, Rumbek, have confirmed that a pickup truck belonging to the SSPDF carrying 6 soldiers from Malek Payam of Rumbek Central County on Tuesday morning overturned leading to the death of 2 soldiers and the injury of 4 others.

The acting police spokesperson in Lakes State, Lt. Col. Moses Machuoc Bol, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that the accident occurred near Dengnhial in Rumbek Central County and that the 4 soldiers who sustained serious were taken to Rumbek State hospital for treatment.

“In the morning, there was a military pickup carrying about 6 soldiers that got involved in an accident due to speeding while traveling from Malek Payam to the state headquarters,” he said. “The accident claimed the lives of 2 SSPDF soldiers and 4 others sustained injuries and they are receiving treatment at the Rumbek State Hospital.”

Col. Machuoc said the accident vehicle was taken to the governor’s compound and that investigations are ongoing.

“I appeal to SSPDF soldiers not to allow soldiers without proper driving licenses to get behind the wheel, he advised.

Meanwhile, the Rumbek hospital administrator, Mawet Bol, confirmed that they were treating the injured soldiers.

“We are now treating the soldiers who were injured but those with minor injuries have been discharged,” he said. “We have a few left here and they are stable.”
