A South Sudan army soldier and one from the community police were on Saturday killed in clashes with armed youth in Western Bahr Naam County of Western Lakes State, police said.

The incident occurred at the county headquarters.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the state police spokesperson, Elijah Mabor Makuac said a group of six attackers came and started shooting at organized forces in Eastern Bahr Naam County.

“These are group of criminals. They killed two people on the spot; one from the wounded heroes and another from the community police. They also wounded two others, one student and the other is a policeman,” he explained.

Mabor denied reports that civilians’ houses were burnt down during the clashes between the organized forces and the armed youth. “There are no official reports of houses burnt down by the organized forces during the clashes and if there are houses burnt down, then these were houses where criminals hid to attack people,” he said.

The police officer further said investigations are ongoing and whoever is found guilty would immediately be apprehended and tried in court.
