Unknown gunmen on Thursday last week shot and killed a South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) soldier in Western Bahr Naam County of Western Lakes State.
The county’s paramount chief, Ater Madul confirmed the incident.
"It is true that unknown armed youth sprayed bullets at the national army convey, killing one soldier on the spot,” he told Radio Tamazuj.
Ater condemned killing and looting of innocent people on roads in the area.
"I condemn the killing and attacks carried by armed youth on soldiers. This must stop with immediate effect and we urge close relatives to surrender the suspects,” he stressed.
Ater said authorities in the state have instructed all the chiefs in Western Bahr Naam County to hunt for the suspects who are still at large.
He accused armed youth from cattle camps of carrying out such attacks, but said the army has been deployed to curb these attacks.
The community leader also lauded the state governor for controlling insecurity along the main road linking Bahr el Ghazal region to Juba.
