SSPDF officer found dead under mysterious circumstances in Kuajok

A South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) soldier identified as Captain John Yeka Nemaya was found dead in a hotel room in Kuajok Town of South Sudan’s Warrap State on Monday this week.

A South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) soldier identified as Captain John Yeka Nemaya was found dead in a hotel room in Kuajok Town of South Sudan’s Warrap State on Monday this week.

The Late Yeka was part of an SSPDF audit committee sent to the state on official duty.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, SSPDF spokesperson Major General Lul Ruai Koang said the circumstances around the death are unclear but that a document from the finance department indicates that Capt. Yeka was killed.

“I have just received the paper of the late written by his director in the finance department. He wrote that he was killed and there is no clear detail whether he killed himself,” he said.

“He was killed on May 2nd but there is no detail of who killed him and what was the reason for his killing. It was just said that the late Captain was killed in Kuajok while on duty and the details are not enough. Some say he killed himself while others say he was killed,” the army spokesman said.

Gen. Koang said the truth will be established once an investigation committee is formed.

However, the Police Captain, Andrea Santino Kuot in Kuajok, said the late committed suicide.

“We got the room closed and we forcefully broke the door and found he had shot himself on the head and left hand. We also found SSP 116,000 in a bag and some bullets. We took the body to the mortuary in the hospital and his body was transported by auditing committee members to Juba via Wau yesterday (Wednesday),” he said.
