SSPDF driver knocks rider dead in Awerial County

A South Sudan People’s Defence Force (SSPDF) driver attached to General Marial Chanuong Yel knocked and killed a motorcycle taxi rider, commonly known as boda-boda, in Awerial County of Lakes State last Saturday, police said.

The chief inspector of police in Awerial County, Bol Tier, told Radio Tamazuj that the police arrested the military driver the same day.

"We have managed to detain the driver of the vehicle and he is now in police custody in Gulyar, and the investigation is going on," Tier said.

He confirmed that the vehicle which knocked and killed the boda-boda rider belonged to Gen. Marial Chanuong and was transporting goods from Kal-thok to Gulyar.

"We have found out that the vehicle belongs to General Marial Chanuong Yel. Now the vehicle and the driver are with us in the police and investigations are going on. When the investigation is completed, the driver will be taken to court for trial," he added. 

Tier said they had contacted Gen. Marial Chanuong over the fatal accident upon his return to Juba, but he ordered that proper investigations take place and the law takes its course.
