The South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF)’s Division 3 command in Northern Bahr el Ghazal on 14 August apprehended Gabriel Bol Dut he is being interrogated on why he called for the removal of the governor.
Bol, who is a member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), penned an open letter to President Salva Kiir in which he demanded the removal of Governor Tong Akeen Ngor over malpractices and poor services delivery.
The detained politician confirmed to Radio Tamazuj Monday from the military barracks in Wanjok in Aweil town that his detention was connected to the missive he wrote.
“The reason that I was arrested on 14 August at 8 pm is connected with an open letter that I wrote to the president concerning the rescue of the vision of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State by removing the governor from the position of the governorship and as SPLM interim chairperson in the State,” he explained. “This is the reason I was arrested by the governor and he asked he me who assigned me to write the open letter.”
He said his movements are to the environs of the SSPDF’s Division 3 military barracks.
A party member who spoke on condition of anonymity said their Bol was arrested while he was away from Aweil Town and that there was no clear information of his whereabouts.
“Yes, I heard that Gabriel Bol was been arrested while I was away and when I came back, I found he was already arrested and we do not know his whereabouts. We have just heard rumors that he was taken to Wunyiik and Mathiang military barracks,” he said.
Meanwhile, the state’s information and communication minister, William Anyuon Kuol, said he had no information about the arrest and added that he could not comment since he is away from the state.
“What has happened to Gabriel? I am not aware of that. I am not even in Aweil,” he said. “I am Uganda so I cannot comment anything because I am not there, I am on my leave.”
