The South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) on Tuesday attacked a base of the SPLA-IO in the Wunaliet area of Terekeka County in Central Equatoria State, an SPLA-IO official said.
SPLA-IO Spokesperson Colonel Lam Paul Gabriel told Radio Tamazuj that their bases at the Wunaliet Cantonment Site and in Tindilo in Terekeka County were attacked early in the morning on Monday.
“We talk of Wunaliet which was attacked on Monday by the SSPDF and also around Tindilo on the same day,” he said. “We are trying to get details but cannot contact our field and sector commander who is based in Wunaliet. His contacts (phones) are all off.”
The SPA-IO mouthpiece called on the Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring & Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) and the Joint Defense Board (JDB) to investigate these recent violations by the SSPDF “before things get out of hand.”
“When you talk of having an impact on a peace deal, there is already a lack of trust and we do not even know whether we will continue implementing this peace to the end or not because these kinds of attacks have been done purposely on our bases and in our areas of control and they are provocative,” Col. Lam stated.
When contacted for comment, SSPDF Spokesperson Gen. Lul Ruai Koang said he was unaware of any clashes in the stated places and would contact the SSPDF field commander for an update.
