SRF rebels attack SAF at Taiba, South Kordofan

Sudanese rebels, the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), attacked a Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) position at Taiba in South Kordofan state on Wednesday, reportedly seizing military equipment and vehicles and resulting in an unknown number of casualties.

SAF were reportedly stationed in the area to protect a number of companies working in South Kordofan, including a Chinese company constructing the road from al-Debebat to el-Fula.

Yacop Mohammed Abdel-Karim, SRF leader and a member of the SPLM-N, confirmed that they attacked SAF late on Wednesday, near the base of the Chinese construction company.

Abdel-Karim claimed that SAF forces were defeated, leaving behind a large amount of equipment and a number of vehicles.

Radio Tamazuj has not been able to reach SAF for confirmation of this.

Meanwhile, Abdel-Karimhas warned civilians residing in the areas of Debebat, Al-Quiz, Lagawa and el-Fula that these areas will be targeted by the SRF and therefore they should stay away from sites regularly occupied by SAF forces. He also warned residents against joining the government-affiliated Popular Defence Forces for fear of reprisal.
