Health officials in South Sudan’s Gbudue State reported that citizens are living in desperate conditions due to an outbreak of diseases amid shortages of medicines.

Lino Utu, Gbudue Minister of Health, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that the state is witnessing spread of malaria, typhoid and hepatitis diseases among local residents in Yambio amid shortages of medicines in various health facilities.

“No medicines in the hospital and people are sick. They come from Yambio and the surrounding areas, but what we are getting from Juba is not enough. I am telling you the fact, the last thing we got was a shipment of medicines enough for three month only,” said Utu.

The local official further said more than 200 patients suffering from hepatitis are not getting medicines at Yambio Civil Hospital. He called on humanitarian organizations to look into the matter and provide medicines to the needy people.

“I want to appeal to the national ministry of health to bring enough medicines to the people of Yambio that can be stored,” he said.
