We have promised to continue with Cuba in terms of relationship.”

Makueng reminisced the support of the Cuban people and government for the SPLM during the liberation struggle in the then Sudan.
“Cuba played a vital role in supporting the movement, training them militarily, and our zonal commanders were also trained in Cuba. 600 children of the Red Army went to Cuba and they also gave us medical and technical support. So, there was a lot that we benefited from Cuba,” he concluded, adding, “Majority rule in South Africa would have not been achieved if Cuba was not involved militarily and politically to help bring down the apartheid regime in South Africa.”
