The Political Bureau of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), the governing party of South Sudan, condemned the inter-communal fight between armed youth from the Pakam and Rup clans in Western Lakes state.

This comes on Saturday at a meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir, who doubles as chairman of the SPLM party.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Jemma Nunu Kumba, Acting Secretary General of the SPLM party, said the Political Bureau condemned in the strongest terms possible the events that took place in Western Lakes where many people lost their lives during the inter-communal fight.

She pointed out that the party leadership called for unity and harmony among the people of South Sudan. “We are one people, and also during the meeting we reflected on the ongoing national dialogue and how the SPLM together with other political parties can participate effectively to ensure that this process succeeds,” he said.

“We also talked on how we can join hands with the other political parties as key stakeholders to mobilize our people and sensitize them because our people really need to be aware,” she added.
