The Political Bureau of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), the governing party of South Sudan, said it has accepted the IGAD proposal to revitalize the 2015 peace agreement.
This comes during a recent meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir, who doubles as chairman of the SPLM party.
Peter Lam Both, Secretary of Information for the SPLM faction led by President Kiir, said the Political Bureau has accepted the revitalization process, saying the ruling party accepts any initiative that can bring about and stability in the country.
He further said they also welcomed the IGAD proposal to include all estranged groups to be part of the revitalization process.
When asked whether their group will accept Machar’s return to the government, Lam said, “I don’t want to talk about it. Whether Machar will return or not will be discussed in Addis Ababa because I don’t want to talk about something not on the table.”
