A senior member of the SPLM party in Alor County of Western Lakes State has been released after being detained in the town of Rumbek for more than a week.
Makuer Dhok, the ruling SPLM party's secretary general in Alor County, was arrested by National Security Services (NSS) in Rumbek earlier this month.
A relative of Mr Makuer, who preferred anonymity, told Radio Tamazuj that the state governor ordered Makuer’s release on Sunday.
He pointed out that the SPLM official was freed without charge.” Makuer was released without charge or trial. But we thank the governor for releasing our brother,” he said.
Last week, the family and state authorities said Makuer Dhok was detained by security agents following differences with Governor John Deng Mamer over administrative issues in the state.
