Haiban County Commissioner, Khalifa Ibrahim, has urged the leadership of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-North) to allow access between Haiban and Kadugli for sick people and citizens who are ready to respond to peace to come back to Haiban.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Ibrahim revealed that there are about 15,000 internally displaced people from Haiban currently in Kadugli and other counties in the area.
Ibrahim said the county is organizing what he called Rakuba of Peace-which literally means shelter for peace, an initiative to start at the beginning of next year that will bring all the people of the county together to discuss peaceful coexistence as well as preparation for voluntary return of displaced people back to Haiban.
Most government officials of Haiban County are now residing in Kadugli town after the SPLM-North rebel group took over the headquarters of Haiban County and villages.
