The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North faction led by Abdel-Aziz al-Hilu (SPLM-N al-Hilu) announced the extension of the unilateral cessation of hostilities starting from 1 April until June 30.
In a statement released on Tuesday, al-Hilu said they decided to extend the cessation of hostilities to show their "goodwill towards a peaceful resolution of the Sudanese conflict, and in order to give the ongoing peace talks an opportunity for success".
Abdel-Aziz directed all the movement's army units to commit to the extension of cessation of hostilities in all SPLM-N controlled areas.
In January, the SPLM-N al Hilu announced an extension of the unilateral cessation of hostilities for three months in Blue Nile and South Kordofan States.
Peace talks between the transitional government and the SPLM-N al-Hilu are stalled over the latter demand to include secularism and self-determination in the agenda of the talks.
However, Sudanese government officials still hope to convince the holdout opposition group to join the peace process.
