The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement North (SPLM-N) said it clashed with Sudanese government troops at a military base, west of Dilling in South Kordofan on Saturday morning.
The movement said a number of soldiers were killed from both sides in the fighting.
Sources said gunshots were heard in the area at 2:00 am on Saturday, and continued for several hours.
Citizens in the area reportedly closed shops and left the area as the clashes escalated in residential neighbourhoods.
