The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) has welcomed the involvement of ‘Troika’ countries of Norway, USA and the UK as well as other African countries in mediating negotiations to end South Sudan’s civil war.
SPLM-IO deputy head of information and public relations Manawa Peter Gatkuoth told Radio Tamazuj in an interview yesterday that the recent Second Pagak Conference welcomed the new mechanism.
He noted that the opposition faction confirmed that the two warring parties should be given a chance to reach a genuine peace in South Sudan instead of imposing it.
The rebel official further said the Second Pagak Conference called on the UN Security Council and AU Peace and Security Council to set up a special court on human rights abuses committed during the conflict in South Sudan.
