A senior SPLM-IO official says he objected to Riek Machar’s nonviolence views during their recent meeting in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
Ramadan Hassan Laku, who is in charge of the group’s Equatoria dossier, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that he boycotted the SPLM-IO Political Bureau meetings in Khartoum after reaching a deadlock at separate meetings with Riek Machar on how to topple the Kiir government.
“I wanted to discuss with him the need to change the regime immediately, but he disagreed with me,” said Laku. “I believe in regime change through armed struggle, but he talks about routine meetings and I don’t like routine meetings because we had about six meetings in Pagak, and nothing has changed on the ground,” he added.
He pointed out that the armed opposition faction should reorganize itself militarily and administratively to fight against the current government. “The incident that took place after we returned to Juba was serious because we didn’t have any successful military arrangements to protect the leaders and the soldiers, “he explained.
Ramadan denied reports that he intends to join the government in Juba.
In early August, Ramadan Hassan turned down President’s Kiir decree appointing him as the Presidential Adviser on Good Governance and Rule of Law.
