The SPLM-IO led by ousted South Sudanese First Vice President Riek Machar on Tuesday held its Liberation Council meeting in the Sudanese capital Khartoum attended by 45 members.
The meeting took place amid Sudanese government efforts to suppress media coverage of the event. Sudan’s Minister of Information Ahmed Bilal Othman said that they Riek Machar from holding a press conference about it.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, a member of the SPLM-IO who preferred not to be named said Riek Machar presented a report about his recent flight from Juba and what he called the conspiracy made by Taban Deng Gai.
He added that the meeting discussed the replacement of members of the Political Bureau and Liberation Council who had joined the defectors of Taban Deng.
The same source confirmed that Machar held another meeting with members of his Political Bureau in Khartoum, amid reports that Ramadan Hassan Lako, the official in charge of the federalism file for the opposition, boycotted the meeting and left to the Kenyan capital Nairobi without attending the meeting.
Lako had been nominated recently by Taban Deng as presidential advisor but he turned down the nomination.
