SPLM-IO dissidents deny contacts with Sudan govt for peace talks

The leader of the political wing of a group of dissidents who broke away earlier this year from South Sudanse armed opposition group SPLM/A-IO has denied having contacts with the Sudanese government to bring them into the peace process.

The leader of the political wing of a group of dissidents who broke away earlier this year from South Sudanse armed opposition group SPLM/A-IO has denied having contacts with the Sudanese government to bring them into the peace process.

Gabriel Chanson Chang, head of the breakaway group identifying itself as the ‘Federal Democratic Party’, revealed in a statement to Radio Tamazuj that his group, which includes a number of military commanders, including Gen. Peter Gadet, plans to have a meeting in the near future in order to take a position on the current peace agreement.

Earlier, the Sudanese Minister of Information Ahmed Bilal Osman said in an interview with Radio Tamazuj that  Sudanese government was in talks with the dissident group headed by Chanson Chang in order to get them into the peace process.

“We didn’t receive any contact from any one. We will soon hold a meeting so that we take a stand,” Chanson commented.
