SPLM-IO calls for South Sudan war crimes tribunal

The SPLM-In Opposition has called on the international community to prosecute those who committed war crimes in South Sudan during the last two years.

Spokesperson Manawa Peter Gatkuoth said the African Union, IGAD, and others should set up a special tribunal to hold war criminals to account as stipulated by the AU Commission of Inquiry report.

Manawa said justice is a vital element if people want to achieve peace and stability in South Sudan.

"We in the movement would like to reiterate our full commitment to the call of international community, UN, and African Union which demand the establishment of special tribunal on the war crimes committed in South Sudan," he said. "Justice is the only way we can achieve peace, reconciliation and peaceful co-existence."

The AU Commission of Inquiry found both sides committed war crimes in South Sudan in the war's first year.
