The SPLM Former Detainees have expressed their condolences for victims of attacks in Malakal and Wau in which “innocent civilians were killed in cold blood.”
SPLM-FD, one of the signatories of the 2015 peace agreement, are a non-armed group of senior politicians who broke away from Salva Kiir’s ruling faction of the SPLM party (SPLM-Juba) early in the civil war, but have since signed a reunification deal with Kiir.
Deng Alor is the “acting leader” of the Former Detainees in the absence of former SPLM Sectetary-General Pagan Amum, who is reportedly still in exile in the United States.
In a statement today, Deng Alor expressed a “heavy and broken heart” for victims of recent violence in Malakal and Wau.
“We deplore the continued killing of civilians even after signing of peace agreement to bring the violent conflict that erupted in our country in December 2013 to an end,” he said.
Deng Alor encouraged both UNMISS and the South Sudanese government to conclude quickly their investigations into the killings in Malakal.
