The SPLA General Command is warning soldiers against consumption of alcohol while on duty, saying strict measures will be taken against those who violate SPLA rules and regulations.

“They should not be drunk on duty; there is law that prohibits drinking while on duty. That should reported to the SPLA military police and the command of Juba operation,” said Col. Philip Aguer, the army spokesman.

He added that military police will immediately round up soldiers who are reported to be drunk. “The law prohibits and punishes drinking during working hours,” he added.

In a related development, police spokesman Col. James Monday Enoka pointed to the establishment of emergency police courts in all ten states to try police who are accused of committing crimes.

The police colonel explained that the responsibility of police was to keep law and order, protect citizens and their property, and uphold the constitution. He appealed to the police force to change their attitude and abandon all crimes.
