SPLA troops raid Malong’s Malualkon residence: wife

Government troops this afternoon raided the Aweil East home of former military chief Paul Malong in Malualkon town.

Government troops this afternoon raided the Aweil East home of former military chief Paul Malong in Malualkon town.

Malong's wife, Lucy Ayak Malek, told Radio Tamazuj that SPLA and national security forces in two Land Cruiser vehicles raided their home in the town of Malualkon and searched their rooms without a search warrant this afternoon.

She claimed that Malong’s two wives and three young men were assaulted. “The forces came and surrounded the house, but when they were asked to explain the reason, they said they wanted to search for something,” she said.

“They searched our three homes, but when they failed to find what they wanted, they withdrew. They searched the houses and left,” she added.

SPLA spokesman Lul Ruai Koang denied knowledge of the raid.

Paul Malong Awan is currently in Nairobi for medical treatment. He reconciled with President Kiir in November after a tense standoff in Juba threatened to escalate into violence.

Malong had been under house arrest at his residence in Juba since May, after a string of resignations by military officials who alleged there was ethnic bias in the SPLA army.
