The Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), the armed forces loyal to President Salva Kiir, are threatening to bomb a tribal militia from Jonglei State should they march on Bor.
Unconfirmed reports suggest mobilization of some ‘white army’ fighters of the Lou Nuer tribe in the Yuai area, a march of several days from Bor. These are tribal fighters aligned with SPLM-IO forces in the are of northeast Jonglei.
In December 2013 when violence erupted in Juba, similar to the violence last week, organized Lou Nuer militias overran Bor together with defected SPLA soldiers belonging to the Nuer tribe.
Lul Ruai, who is the SPLA spokesman and also an ethnic Lou Nuer, posted on his Facebook page on Sunday saying, “SPLA GHQS has credible and verified information indicating that you have been mobilizing for war and that over three thousand have already gathered in Yuai, Uror County and others are currently meeting in Waat-Nyirol County with a view of joining the conflict in support of SPLA IO.”
He continued, “With this message, SPLA top military leadership urges you to disperse from Yuai and Waat and immediately return to your homes and Luaks within 12 hours failure to which SPLA Airforce would be used to bomb you.”
He urged the white army not to attempt to leave Lou Nuer territories.
