A soldier and his wife were admitted in Kuacjok hospital after a grenade exploded on Saturday evening, believed to have been set off by the soldier during a dispute between the two, according to a senior government official.

Deputy Governor Santino Akot Abiem disclosed this while addressing the church congregation at Kuacjok Catholic Church after Sunday mass. He referred to the event in relation to the government’s announced policy to ban alcoholic drinks.

“Those who drink it and come to cause problems with others like what happened last night when a soldier got drunk afterwards quarreled with his wife and suddenly detonated his grenade and as such both of them got injured and they are now in the hospital,” he explained.

“So I want to tell you this is the situation we banned alcohol,” he said. He added that the government will soon carry out searches for illegal alcohol and illegal guns.
