SPLA officer killed in Juba

An SPLA officer was reportedly shot dead Tuesday night when he was driving to his home at Shirkat area in South Sudan’s capital Juba.

An SPLA officer was reportedly shot dead Tuesday night when he was driving to his home at Shirkat area in South Sudan’s capital Juba.

The victim, Ayor Mac Thiong, held the rank of first lieutenant and was an office manager for the head of the Joint Verification and Monitoring Mechanism General Majier Deng Kur.

Sources close to the victim said he was rushed to the hospital and died there. Various SPLA officials including Majier gathered in Shirkat Thursday morning in hopes of finding the killers.

The perpetrators remain unknown. One witness said the perpetrators appeared to be a 777 police unit.

Police Spokesperson James Monday was unavailable for comment Thursday when called by Radio Tamazuj.
