The Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North rebels have claimed responsibility for an ambush on the Sudanese army in Blue Nile State earlier this week.

Rebel spokesperson Arnu Ngutulu Lodi told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that they killed seven Sudan Armed Forces soldiers and wounded several others in an attack between Ahmer Sidak and Wad Abuk areas west of Bau locality.

He said they destroyed a Land Cruiser vehicle, adding that there were no casualties on the rebel side.

Arnu claimed they seized a number of pieces of military equipment, while accusing militias supported by the Khartoum government of attacking civilians and destroying agricultural fields in the rebel-held territories.

Radio Tamazuj could not reach government officials in Sudan to confirm Arnu’s account.
