SPLA-N denies rumour of withdrawal from Kauda

Sudan’s rebel movement SPLA-N has denied reports that appeared in electronic media from Khartoum that they have ordered a withdrawal from Kauda in the Nuba Mountains.

Top rebel commander Malik Agar was rumoured to have issued a statement instructing an immediate withdrawal of his forces from Kauda area in South Kordofan State.

The rebels were said to have decided to retreat from their stronghold for alleged humanitarian reasons and also to save lives of the people.

But the spokesman of the movement Arno Ngutulu Lodi vehemently dismissed the reports that had appeared in electronic media. In an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Sunday he asserted that the statement was totally fabricated.

The National Congress Party consistently resorts to spreading rumours and fabricating lies in order to cover up its serious losses inflicted in the war, he stated.

He affirmed that the rebel forces in the Nuba Mountains are strong and will firmly stand to defend the Kauda area and other areas under their control. “We shall repulse any offensive carried out by government forces,” said Lodi.
