Men recruited to serve in the SPLA-Juba faction loyal to Salva Kiir have demonstrated in the capital of Western Equatoria State and looted property on Monday.

The new recruits were complaining about lack of food, according to Acting State Governor Sapana Abui, who noted that they looted some property during their demonstration.

“This morning, some of the army new recruits took to the streets demonstrating for a reason we don’t know yet,” he said on the UN radio service. “They did some damages to some few cars but we quickly managed to arrest some of them and some of them are on the run.”

“We are collecting them one by one from their residential areas. We are condemning that kind of behavior. We know what happened was that they are hungry because they have run out of food in these few days. We are trying as a state to get some little food for them.”
