The SPLA Division One commander has dismissed reports of clashes with rebels in northern Upper Nile, after media reports of fighting near Renk.

Gurtong website reported on Thursday that the army repulsed opposition fighters in Renk County of Upper Nile State.

Brig. Logocho Kollan Roben, Acting Infantry Division One Commander told Radio Tamazuj they were informed that the rebels crossed the Nile to Geiger and he went to the area with SPLA forces but they found nothing suspicious in the area.

Kollan said the rebels are still maintaining their previous positions where they are based. He cautioned however that the rebels have received new weaponry from Sudan and have used these to fire on SPLA-Juba positions.
