Col. Philip Aguer, spokesman of the SPLA-Juba forces, says that SPLA-IO attackers were repulsed in the northern part of Renk in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Aguer said the rebels were repulsed after attacking the army positions on Thursday morning.
“Yes, there was an attack in the northern part of Renk, but we pursued the rebels into areas near the border with Sudan,” he said.
However, he claimed that the security situation is stable in other areas affected by the conflict in South Sudan.
Meanwhile, a local source in northern Upper Nile confirmed that there was fighting between the SPLA and rebel fighters at Duk Duk area. He said the attacked was carried out by the government forces in an attempt to retake some areas that had been under full control of the armed opposition.
Similarly, the SPLA-IO deputy spokesman Dickson Gatluak Jock said government forces violated the ceasefire by attacking their position in Um Dulouth in the northern part of Renk County on Wednesday afternoon.
“Our forces in Renk under command of CDR. Major General James Koang Chuol came under heavy attack this afternoon from Juba SPLA faction,” he said.
