The first batch of South Sudanese armed opposition fighters (SPLA-IO) arrived at Bussere payam, an assembly area which is located south of Wau town last week, an official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, the SPLA-IO military spokesperson in Western Bahr al Ghazal region, Col. Nichola Gabriel Adam estimated that a battalion of armed opposition troops arrived at the assembly area on May 22.

He said the decision to move troops to the assembly point was within the framework of the security arrangement agreement.

"In implementation of the agreement, we want to assure our people that our forces reached assembly areas in Bussere and we also have forces that moved to Raja and are likely to arrive soon,” said Adam.

The armed opposition official renewed their commitment to the implementation of the revitalized peace accord.

The South Sudan parties signed a peace deal in September 2018 which was meant to culminate in a unity government on 12 May.

However critical issues such as the creation of a unified army are yet to be implemented with the formation of the transitional government has been delayed another six months.
