The SPLA-IO faction led by former vice president Riek Machar claimed that they repulsed a government attack on their positions in Marmar area in Unity State on Friday.
James Yoach, spokesperson of the rebel group in Unity state, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that they clashed with government troops in Marmar area last week.
He claimed that they inflicted heavy losses on the government troops in terms of lives and military equipment. “Our forces managed to repulse the attack, and they inflicted heavy losses on the government, over 18 soldiers were killed and 21 wounded,” said Yoach.
The rebel spokesman admitted that one soldier was killed and two others were wounded from their side. Yoach also accused the government of shelling Leer town on Sunday.
For his part, Brig. Lul Ruai Koang, spokesman of the SPLA army, denied knowledge about any clashes with opposition fighters in Unity State.
