SPLA-IO rebels claim capture of Morobo town

South Sudanese rebels loyal to former vice president Riek Machar announced that they captured Morobo town in Yei River State on Thursday.

Kiri Bennett, military spokesman of the SPLA-IO forces in Central Equatoria, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that their forces managed to capture Morobo town and blocked all roads leading to the area on Thursday.“I cannot tell you more details, but we thank our forces are now in Morobo, and we have forces going to Kaya and Yei,” he claimed.

The rebel official pointed out that their troops are deployed in most of the areas in Central Equatoria State.

For his part, Lul Ruai Koang, spokesman of the SPLA forces, denied knowledge of what happened in Morobo town.
