South Sudanese rebel forces loyal to former Vice President Riek Machar in Western Bahr el Ghazal State announced that they captured Ngo Baggari County and detained the County Commissioner together with his bodyguards.
Ashab Khamis Fahal, commander of the armed opposition forces in Western Bahr el Ghazal, told Radio Tamazuj that their forces clashed with the government soldiers and managed to capture Ngo Baggari County. He claimed that about 1700 government soldiers defected to their side.
“Since yesterday government forces withdrew and 1725 soldiers have joined us. Since yesterday we have been inside Ngo Baggari County” said Khamis.
The commander pointed out that they also captured the Ngo Baggari County Commissioner together with his bodyguards, saying they were fine.
“The commissioner and his bodyguards are in a good condition, so he is expected to make a statement later on” he explained.
Radio Tamazuj couldn’t reach government officials in the area to comment on the matter.
