Police officials in South Sudan’s Unity State say an officer of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO), was killed in a revenge attack at the Bentiu Internally Displaced People’s camp.
Col. James Tut Chuol, the commander of the Joint Police in Bentiu IDP Camp told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the officer identified as Gatluok Matiek was killed on Friday evening.
“There was a revenge killing of SPLA-IO brigadier in Bentiu IDPs Camp at Sector Two market by suspected armed youth wearing SSPDF uniform from within the community. This happened on Friday night last weekend at 8:40 pm,” he said.
Tut said after killing the officer, the criminals dumped his body near a small dam.
“We found the body of the deceased on Sunday at 8:20 am in the dam between sector two market and sector four,” he added.
According to Tut, no one has been arrested following the murder, but he mentioned that the security situation remained calm at the camp.
