National security officials fired shots at bodyguards of First Vice President Riek Machar in an incident Wednesday night, according to the opposition’s top military commander.
According to Gen. James Koang Chol, a patrol unit attempted to stop vehicles carrying Machar’s bodyguards. The bodyguards refused to stop, and the patrol unit fired on the vehicle’s tires on two occasions, Chol said.
He also said there was a verbal altercation between both sides, but it did not escalate.
