A top commander with the rank of general in the SPLA-IO was killed in last week clashes on west bank areas near Malakal town in Upper Nile State between Aguelek and SPLA last week, a spokesman of the Aguelek forces said.

Aguelek forces are an ethnic Shilluk militia aligned with the SPLM-IO rebel group and commanded by General Johnson Olony.

Maj. Gen. Nyagwal Ajak Deng, the group’s military spokesman, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that the SPLA-IO faction lost Maj. Gen. Mujahid Abel in the clashes that erupted at Warjok area near Malakal.

He explained that the top rebel commander was shot during fighting and that he later succumbed to his wounds and died.

Nyagwal accused Kiir government of dishonouring the signed peace agreement after Riek Machar fled Juba after July events.
