A South Sudan armed opposition (SPLA-IO) commander visited his troops to confirm their sites in Tambura State.
James Naando, the commander of SPLA-IO forces in Tambura and Gbudue States, said Wednesday that he visited the soldiers to verify their locations.
He said he instructed the troops not to collect money from people on the way. The commander added that he urged the forces to allow free movement of people.
Naando further said he talked to all commissioners in the areas he visited and urged them to allow his troops to move to town in order to buy their needs.
He reiterated the armed opposition faction’s commitment to peace.
The SPLA-IO commander visited Nagero, Namatina, Tambura and Ezo.
Meanwhile, Naando said the removal of Sudan’s President Omar Al-Bashir from power will not lead to the collapse of the revitalised peace accord.
“He [Al-Bashir] brought peace, but it is the people of South Sudan to keep and build that peace,” he stressed.
In September last year, South Sudan’s arch-foes signed a revitalized peace agreement to end the country’s civil war that killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions.
The agreement was brokered by the ousted Sudanese president Omar Al-Bashir.
