South Sudan's armed opposition has accused government troops of attacking its base at Lojulo area of Morobo County in Yei River State on Sunday morning.

“The government forces attacked us at Lojulo on Sunday morning. Heavily armed government troops were dispatched to control the area,” said Lam Paul Gabriel, the deputy spokesperson for the SPLA-IO.

He added, “I don’t have more details about the fighting. Our forces may pull out of the area because the government forces are heavily armed”.

For his part, army spokesman Lul Ruai Koang denied knowledge of any clashes with the SPLA-IO forces in Morobo County.

Last month, South Sudan government and opposition groups signed a final peace agreement, after weeks of protracted talks.
