The commander of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) Division Eight in Jonglei State, Maj. Gen. Malual Majok, said they will deal with unknown gunmen who are attacking passengers and traders along the Juba-Bor road, while promising to provide security along the road.

Majok gave the warning while addressing citizens on the occasion of SPLA Day in Bor town on Tuesday.

“As you all know, we have reach Waat, the headquarters of Bieh stat, we have reached Ayod and other areas. I want to tell our people that they should not panic, what is happening on Juba-Bor road is a small thing,” said Majak.

“We are only waiting for our governments both at the national and the state levels to tell us whether what is on Juba- bor road is an issue caused by civilians or it is a mutiny,” he added.

On May 8, authorities in Jonglei warned their citizens not used the road between Bor and Juba following a deadly ambush at Gemeiza and Sudan-Safari, leaving more than 30 passengers dead.

Last week, a convoy of military escort for South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai was ambushed by unknown gunmen at Sudan-Safari area along the Juba-Bor road, wounding three soldiers.

A long the same road, three foreign truck drivers were shot and killed in an ambush by unknown gunmen near Mangala area over weekend.
