The eyewitness who spoke to radio Tamazuj on condition of anonymity confirmed that among other churches looted by the government soldiers included Morobo Catholic Church from which they removed  iron sheets and on the roofs of several  schools in the area .

The government soldiers, according to witnesses, took the properties for private use while other valuables were seen being driven to the neighbouring Congo for marketing.

“When the army broke into the Catholic Church, they took computers and other items were taken for personal benefit while others are taken to Congo in return for money. The other thing I want say here is that most of the churches and schools have been looted in Morobo” he added.

The witness described the general security situation in the area as scaring as many people were still remained hiding in the bushes while others remained inside Congo villages.

He said that there are no people in the town but only Government organised forces are seen in the town. Radio tamazuj could not reach the SPLA county commander to comment on the matter. Morobo County continues to witness a wave of insecurity in the past many months, forcing many civilians to flee to the neighbouring Uganda and the democratic Republic of Congo for safety.

For his part, Santo Dominc, deputy spokesman of the SPLA forces in Juba, denied knowledge of the matter. He pointed out that the SPLA army cannot comment on unfounded allegations.
