‘Special police forces’ of Sudan still deployed in Abyei

Spokesperson of the Sudan Armed Forces, Alsoarma Khaled Saad, said Khartoum is not planning not withdraw its armed police forces from the Abyei region until the Abyei administration installed their own armed and police forces.He said this is according agreements with the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) after Sudan announced its withdrawal from Abyei last week. According to Khaled Saad, an additional 169 ‘special police forces’ will remain close to the oil fields of Defra to protect the disputed sources. He said the police forces will remain in Defra until the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) and the Abyei administration installed their armed forces to protect the oil fields.
