A special military court was constituted to prosecute former commander of the army’s fifth infantry division in Wau Stephen Buay Rolnyang, the military said.
In May 2018, Maj. Gen. Stephen Buay was captured in fighting with government troops after being accused of rebelling against the government in Mayom County.
Santo Domic, deputy spokesman of the South Sudanese army, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that Chief of Defense Forces Gabriel Jok Riak has formed a seven-member special court martial to try Stephen Buay.
The special military court, according to Domic, will submit its final report to the army leadership within 10 working days.
The deputy spokesman revealed that former army commander is facing charges of rebellion and mismanagement of properties belonging to the army’s fifth infantry division.
Domic pointed out that Maj. Gen. Thiik Aciek Hol will head the special court which will include Hilary Oduho, Abubar Mohamed, Riak Tiop Deng, Dhuol Gony, Nhial Arou and Angui Geng as its members.
Domic noted that the special court martial was constituted last week.
