Hundreds of South Sudanese women marched in silence on Saturday as they took to the streets in Juba to demand peace and stability in the country.

Carrying posters that call for peace, women of different backgrounds condemned the ongoing civil war and suffering of people.

"We, the women of South Sudan,  we are marching for peace, and we are also going to pray for peace so that we come together in this nation,” a demonstrator who identified herself as Catherin  said.

"We, the women of South Sudan, we are calling on our men to end the war because we need peace because without peace we don’t see any development. Women and children continue to suffer," she told Radio Tamazuj.

"We know that people will be going to Addis Ababa for revitalization of the peace process soon, so we want to raise our voices to God so that we have peace. We want to end this suffering.”

Catherine pointed out that the event was organized by over 40 organizations representing faith-based groups, women and civil society.
