A large number of South Sudanese families have recently gone to Kenya’s Kakuma refugee camp through Kiala area in Imatong state, a local traditional leader said.
Sultan David Oyalala, chief of the Kiala area, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that about 30 vehicles carrying women and children passed through Kiala area en route to neighbouring Kenya on Monday.
He pointed out that the vehicles were carrying citizens from Juba, Upper Nile and Eastern Equatoria areas, saying the conflict-affected people decided to go to Kakuma camp in search for food and security.
“Honestly, vehicles have been going regularly,” he said.”There were 30 vehicles carrying people from Juba and Malakal, there were also people from Torit, they went to Kakuma,”he added.
The traditional leader pointed out that another convoy of 18 vehicles carrying South Sudanese citizens crossed to Kenya over the past four days.
